Should I Pay?

This is a small thing, but wwyd? Some of you know that dd14 was depressed last year, well she seems to have come out of her funk (still got teen attitude, don't get me wrong) and isn't wearing black much anymore. She also wants to dye her very black dyed hair back to its original brown color. Unfortunately, the only way to do this is to pay what will probably come to $130 to bleach it (only way to get black out) and then dye it brown. Normally, I would say "gee honey, I guess you've learned a valuable lesson. Let me know when you've saved up enough money." But speaking of picture day, it's coming up and I myself would sincerely love a picture of her with her natural color. So I'm sorely tempted to pay for it myself.

Yesterday after food shopping with me she suggested, "mom, if we don't buy food for one week you can afford to get my hair dyed." Thing is, her brothers have gotten used to eating. I can come up with the cash, I know, but what will that teach her? I can also have her meet me halfway by paying for part of it out of her allowance. Any other suggestions? We don't have much time - picture day is October 2nd.

Denise,
I hadn't thought of it that way, but thank you. I've got the appointment set for Saturday at 9:45 a.m. Maybe she and I will grab lunch after!

grab lunch and a new outfit for pictures, something bright and cheery that you both love.

I would pay for it. Or make her a deal that she does some extra work around the house to help pay for it.

BUt,...be forwarned, sometimes you cannot get all the black out. I did this with my wn hair.....dyed it black and hated it. So I went into get it 'stripped' and dyed back to my own color and it did not work. I still had very dark hair.

Good Luck

Is 'stripped' the same as bleached? What she is going to do is bleach her hair first, then dye it to the closest match to her original color. That's why it's such a length and expensive process. She'll be there for hours. That will teach her! If I had known this about black hair myself I would have never let her do it. It's hard to believe they couldn't get yours all out by bleaching!

I dont know if stripped is the same. All I know is I was sick to my tummy when I was still black.

Let us know how it went. I hope it went well.

Great minds think alike! HAHA!!! Guess we're both 'graduating' to different types of conversations!

Thanks for asking. Actually, we were both quite dissapointed. I spent $150 and she spent 3 1/2 hours at the shop and her hair still had some black in it! Worse, the color she had picked did not look at ALL like the color she wound up with. Between the two of us, I don't know who was more dissapointed - me with the money I spent and results I got, her with the results. Happily, the next day she was happier with her hair color - her best friend said something uplifting, I guess. It's not horrible, but the color is in "patches" (luckily this appears to be popular look these days) because of how the black wouldn't come out everywhere - even after applying bleach 3 times! DD said she could have done a better job herself - I would disagreed before, but now I don't doubt it. This lady is great with hair color, too - she does both mine and my mother's and I have trusted her for years. I think maybe it's just "one of those things."

Ooohh ... sorry you didn't get the results you wanted, Marie. Will the black just fade out eventually? Like other hair color?

I think maybe your DD's hair didn't take the color as it normally would, just due to the extreme amount of bleaching and processing the hair went through beforehand.

I'm guessing this may be a lesson learned for your DD? And yes, I think you're right about the 'chunks' of color being a popular trend ... blond on top, black underneath, that sort of thing.
