I took N & T school shopping yesterday, normally shopping trips with them are a lot of fun.

Wowie, that sounds like behavior more typical of a 5yo! I had the delightful experience of having my 5yo nephew here this weekend ... when unpacking some boxes after our move, I put aside some practically new books and toys for him; ones that W had obviously outgrown.

He was quite interested when I said 'Oh D, I have some things for you', but they were obviously not to his liking as he not only did not acknowledge them, but simply took a look, flipped his hand at the stack and walked away. Spoiled brat.

I won't be doing much shopping for him, either!

It was very nice of you to take her shopping and buy her lunch! I hope that someone in the family thanked you!

Like I said, A and T aren't cut from the same mold - T promptly told me "thank you mommy, and thank you from my spoiled brat sister too."

Well, I'm glad for that!

I've seen this same charming nephew flat-out refuse to say 'thank you', even when prompted by his parents or grandparents to do so. He just walks away! His parents will say "well, I guess he's not in the mood to say thank you today". ???

My crystal ball tells me there will be problems in the future with this kid!

Oh, Rose, I do believe that T's little sister needs to take a chapter or two out of T's book on manners and how to treat people. Isn't it just amazing how different 2 kids can be that come from the same household? I must admit, you handled it much better than I would have. I honestly believe at the point where she refused to eat, I would have picked up her sandwich, marched everyone out of there and taken her promptly home. I would have given the sandwich to her mom and told her that since her dd didn't want to eat it at the time, I thought she could eat it later. Now, had it been a kid that I knew *well*, as in had it been one of my kid's friends, then, I would have lectured them right then and there on manners. :) Shoot, I've been known to put an entire birthday party in time out! LOL aaacccckkkkkk I can't *stand* it when kids act that way, especially when they are "company"!

I've had parents ask me how did I get my kids to be so respectful of me...and I can't answer that. (Don't get me wrong, there have been times....~~~shudder~~~) but I guess I've tried to always treat my kids with respect and they have always reciprocated. Well, for the most part. I wonder how in the world T got to be so respectful and his little sis is such a brat.

How did they end up so different?
