Softball practice

DD15 is playing softball this winter/spring. They do their practices *before* school. So...school starts at 8:05, practice at 7:00. It takes DD almost an hour on the subway to get to school, so she has to leave around 6. She likes to have an hour to get ready to leave, so the alarm went off at 4:55. YIKES!

OTOH, I'm proud of her for being willing to wake up so early for practice....and glad that she likes having me wake up with her (our daily coffee and Jon Stewart date)....but *before* 5am?

Pass me that extra caffeine!

Wow! That IS early. Makes me realize how much we spoiled DS, driving him to school so he could get an extra 1/2 hour of sleep, waking him at 6:30 instead of 6:00. I always think of what good self-discipline our sons' friends develop when they're on the swim team, because they always have early AM practices.

Your DD must not have time to shower before school starts and I know that would bother my son. Are the early AM practices not physically strenuous?

Good question - I don't know what she's going to do. I assume it's not too strenuous, because I KNOW she won't take a shower at school, and wouldn't stay in school if she was too sweaty. She did bring clothes to change into..

I'll have to ask her. There are some body wipes that I can get for her if it's a problem.

I have never heard of before school practice for anything except hockey and that's because they get wierd ice times. They just had an article in our paper about what the kids and parents of hockey players have to put up with, which did more to convince me that DS can play any sport except hockey! Our high school starts at 7:30, which means the girls have to get the bus at 6:50. I don't even get up any more, although I used to get up just to make sure that my DD, who is not too peppy in the a.m., wouldn't miss the bus. Now that she drives, I don't even bother. My DS has to get out the door at 7:30 and gets up at 7:00 or probably 7:10 by the time I call him a few times. I know he will have to be awakened for high school and I hate getting up early just as much.

Oh gosh Sue, that sounds just brutal! I think you're going to have a very tired teenager on your hands before long. I hope L has a good season.

C gets up at 6:00 and is out the door at 6:45 during the week. She showers and shampooes at night so she gets to stay in bed that much longer in the morning, then just washes her face and brushes her teeth in the morning. Still ... she barely makes it downstairs by 6:45 -- she eats breakfast and does her makeup in the car.

I don't know how these girls manage these long days ... I don't know if I could manage everything if I had to do it now.

Julie

P.S. -- Did I tell you about my new coffee maker? :-)

My DD played softball but since school started at 7:10 am they had practice after school. Usually DD had tutoring at 6:15 am so she had to do the get up early thing but she's like me and is not a morning person - better off alone. I got to sleep in.

What position does DD play? Mine pitched until we were in a car accident (hit & run by drunk driver) and she tore her shoulder. Then she moved to first. She liked first better anyway! Now she's in college and I don't know what i'll do. We've watched her play softball for 13 years and suddenly it's gone - oh the extra time in my life!!
