It's easy for those casual, part-time jobs to turn into full time. Remember, you CAN say no. With your DH traveling so much, things can get overwhelming.
I quit my FT work in 2000 cuz (among other things) my DH was traveling so much, and I wanted to be around more when my teens were in their exploratory phase. Ater that I increased my volunteer hours, then took a part-time job and kept adding more and more hours, but I did learn to say 'no' to keep it <30 hrs/week.
Now we've moved, have an empty nest and DH just learned that he'll have a new position next year that will require tavel (luckily little, if any, overseas). I'm still trying to decide whether I want part-time, full-time or just volunteer work, so that I can travel with him now that we have no kids at home to worry about. I'm never bored at home & volunteering, and with 40% going to taxes, a job has to be pretty interesting before I'll take it over volunteer work with flexibility that I value a lot.
Exploratory phase....I love it! And I've just learned it actually starts at 12!
I have been a SAHM for 18 years! I always worked and was actually living on my own til I was 30...DH, preggers, all that changed my life. I do work in DH's office when he needs me...and I've done a few other things to make some money, house cleaning, etc. but nothing much to speak of. Now I too have been passively looking for work, pref. part time. I've applied to about
I'll bet this has been an big adjustment ... for all of you!
