Spring burnout

Not "senioritis" yet (she's only a sophomore), but my DD15 is going through major burnout - last night she had a breakdown about "I really don't want to go to school anymore. There's nothing and nobody there I ever want to see again". I said she always feels this way at the end of May (which may have been the wrong thing to say - not sympathetic enough) and also agreed that this has been a really stressful semester.

After venting for a while, she seemed to feel better. It's hard for me to remember that the venting is needed, and that I shouldn't react to it with big emotion - that makes it worse - she just needs someone to unload all the sh*t on. Can't wait for the end of school!

I'm with your daughter! I just posted on another message board about how burned out I am with teaching. I think everyone has had enough by this time of the year. Hang in there! It's almost over!

DS14 can definitely relate. He has one awful teacher this year who has just destroyed his morale and self-confidence, and now this is the last week of 'real' school, yet it has 3 big whopper tests and a project due, not to mention 7 finals next week. It's been like that all year. He's truly fried. I, too, have tried to let him vent, but I'm not sure it's enough. Sigh.

I hear you. My Matt, a junior, is stretched so thin. He's trying to get through things one at a time. "I can't wait until after May 11 (AP US History exam)," has been replaced by "I can't wait until after May 24 (junior English paper)," which will then be replaced by "I can't wait until after June 1 (choir pops concert)," and so on.

I try to cut him some slack in other areas of his life, and I'm there for a sounding board. That's all I can do at this point.

We're right here with you, Sue. DD took her AP exam Friday and then blew off the entire weekend doing nothing. That wouldn't have been so bad except that on the Thursday before the AP exam, her English teacher assigned a major essay, which DD decided to put off until last night (it's due today). I have no idea what time she finally got to bed last night, and I didn't ask this morning. I *think* the worst is over, however.

DS survived state mandated testing last week and he should be coasting through school pretty much from here on out. However ... he just got out of the shower and said, "oh man, I forgot to do my homework last night!"

Yes, spring fever has hit a nation-wide epidemic.

Poor thing. I think we all feel a little burnt out by this time of year...you know, waiting for school to end, getting ready for summer vacations, etc. I know I am burnt out. I've been trying to back off a little with 17dd - just focusing on her passing her classes to graduate in June. We've eased up on down time activities...I want to make sure she has plenty of time to just chill without too many schedules.

Listening is important, as you know Sue. I'm glad your dd vented to you. It's hard to not say anything when they're like that, isn't it? We're moms and we want to help them feel better but sometimes they just need to unload~

I'm taking Thurs/Fri off from work for some mental relaxation - if dd didn't miss so much school I'd let her stay home too!

Madison is burned out. This happens at the end of every year. AP testing is done so her classes are basically over. It is a push for her to just to go to school. Thank goodness Connor and her boyfriend arent home yet because she would go insane if she had to still go to school while they were at home.

Marissa and Jade are a little burned out. They just cant wait for this year to be over. AP testing just ended, which is a burden lifted from their shoulders. Unfortunately, they have California standardized testing to complete.
