Yesterday (or late Sunday night) a young man in our community committed suicide. I don't know the family personally but this young man was a senior football player, popular, had a nice girlfriend - supposedly had it all. Please remember that as much as your teens can drive you crazy, as impulsive, ornery, and immature as they can be at times, as much as they can hurt your

A good reminder indeed - we've had a few scares with the kids over the years and it is funny how you can go from being ready to kill them to worrying yourself sick over them. It puts it into a new perspective. I always think of that phrase about suicide being a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but I think that there's a reason that the army needs to recruit 19 year olds... death is just not as real or permanent to them (no disrespect to our veterans or parents- I was much more willing to be in the army than I am to consider sending mine off to the army). I think you get older and you realize how short life is. Those poor parents. You wonder if they'll ever recover enough to enjoy life. It's hard to imagine. :(

This one kind of hits close to home in that we have an extended family member whose nearly 18 year old son had a GF break up with him by text and after a few texts the state patrol folks think he committed suicide by automobile.
