I've watched 16 and pregnant and Teen Mom with my DD quite a few times, and I've never thought it glamorized teen pregnancy or parenthood... though it wasn't afraid to show the rewarding moments in parenthood either.
did you two even know what a condom was back then?"
I'm a few years older than you are, (my baby is 19, had her when I was 31), but when *I* was 17, the prevailing "wisdom" in our small, very religious community was that "kids don't need to know about that until they're married."
Good for teens? It gives them some insight into the daily grind (in some cases) and I don't think the show "glamourizes" pregnancy or parenthood...I've also only seen random clips, never watched an entire episode.
What I do find greatly disturbing is the ragmag "celeb" stories about these girls going on extended vacations in Hawaii, their expensive shopping trips, the limo that one girl was "riding in style"- think I saw that one yesterday...all on MTV's dime. Yup, these girls would be just more low income teen moms without those fat MTV paychecks. How many girls might purposely get pregnant in the worst of circumstances JUST to have a chance of being a juicy enough story for a new season? THAT scares me!
