Teenage Girls?

Hi, I'm lurking from the Sept 06 Expecting Club (can't sleep too well this late in my pregnancy!). I've noticed on a few of the parenting boards, especially the ones dealing with teenagers, that parents are just baffled and lost as far as what is going on with their kids is concerned. I read a book in school a few years ago written by a psychiatrist who did a lot of work with adolescent girls in the early to mid 90's and I found myself able to relate to so much of what she was saying. Somehow this woman found a way to really understand teenage girls and what they're thinking, feeling, and experiencing and she stated it all in a way that both made sense to me (the teenager) and allowed my mom to have more of an idea of what life was like for me. It opened up the doors for a lot of conversations about issues that I was facing, both the ones my mom had already considered (drugs, sex, etc), and things that were commonplace in my world but hadn't existed when she was a teenager (friends with HIV, the rampant eating disorders, sex in middle school ). The book is Reviving Ophelia by Mary Pipher. It really is a wonderful resource for anyone with a teenage girl. Hope it can be of help to someone!
