We need to realize that when our teens are disrespectful, it's all in God's plans--He's preparing us for the day they leave our homes. It's easier letting go when we see the ugly, alien personas they can take on, than if they were perfect angels up til the day they leave us, right?
When I look back on DS24 who did not grow up until age 20, I'm convinced that's the reason for it. I'm still waiting for DS18 to grow up, but he was never very disrespectful, just got in trouble, or probably just got caught, more than DS24 did in HS. The good news is that they DO grow up and we then realize that despite their bad, teen attitudes, they honestly did love us all along. During the bad years, we just have to be thick-skinned and make them do circles--I love that idea, especially around the car!

There is something to be said for that.
It was reallly helpful reading your letter about your dd who is 13.
I'm coping with my first teenager- of six- and I can honestly say that you are not alone! Teens are mood swingy and rude by nature, or at least mine is. My daughter barely talks to me and we usually end up in a fight on the rare occasion that I rope her into a conversation with me...
Hugs to you!
