Teens and their moods

Who can figure these teens out? Yesterday I was so concerned that my DD was being too isolated from the rest of the family. Today she is happy and cheerful and hanging out with us. She even took me up on my suggestion to invite one of her old gfs over to go sledding. And I walked into the family room this morning to find her playing a board game with her brother!! I still fear that this good mood may have to do with whatever is going on with her bf...but I'll take it!

Enjoy the good mood while it lasts - the up and down moods are definitely part of teen-dom. I think part of the isolation is their way to think through, and work through, all the emotional up-and-down. When my DD15 is stressed by her gf-drama, she can spend a long period of time alone (before venting it all on me!). I think part of the trick is to be available when the mood is up, and available to listen to the venting, but not be too put off by the alone-ness. To be available and not needy is the hard balance.
Hope today is fun too.

For me, sometimes it helps to recall my own teen years. I remember some days feeling like itching powder was in my clothes, and getting all pissy for no reason at all.
I recall reading something about the brain adjusting itself during these years.
