If you know your teen is smoking under the age of 18, do you forbid them to smoke, or just give permission & rather he/she does it in front of you then behind your back ?

Listen, my dd may smoke, but no way would allow her to do chores to earn cigarette money.
It is one thing to know that if they are hell bent on smoking that they will, but it is yet another thing altogether to actually help supply them. I think your H is out of his mind. Yes, accept that she will smoke, but no, do not help her get the butts. One of the reassuring aspects of our dd coming clean with us about her smoking is that we know when she has them and when she doesn't....there have been times when she's begged her older sister to buy her some and dd18 won't do it. She's "against it and refuses to help her kill herself" - her words! LOL.
My exh smokes, like a chimney and my dd's have had limited time with him over the years. There's a part of me that believes my younger dd smokes because she wants so desperately to be anything like him at all. My older dd hates staying at his house because between him and her sister, she can't breathe and they both come home reeking like smoke - it is so gross.
I just think that there are certain people who are succeptible for becoming addicted to cigarettes, but not everyone. Whether it's because they initially want to look cool or because they are fidgety and find comfort in having something in thier hands, or simply because they mimmick what they see adults doing, I don't know; I think it's different for each person but I definitely think it's one of those things that we have no way of determining when they are little. I never in a million years would think that either of my girls would smoke. One does and the other doesn't. But I wouldn't help her smoke.
Smoking is not considered cool here but stupid.
Book a visit to a local cancer ward for both him & your daughter. Or call the Cancer Society
for some rather graphic pictures of what smoking does to one's lungs. They might have advice
on a local "Smokers Intervention Group".
It's time for the shock treatment to protect the life of both your husband and your daughter. Smoking kills.
Sounds like a plausable explanation why she smokes. Have you thought about getting your daughter some help to understand why she smokes? Might help her quit.
Good Luck
I have 4 kids, 3 smokers, all 3 started about 14 or 15.
My son who is 17 {18 in august} has smoked for 3 years. For the first year I didn't allow it he hid it from us so he thought. It came to a point that there was other battles that needed to be fought harder then the smokeing battle. Now that all the battles are over the habit is still there. Does this make my son a bad kid because he smokes. No He is not allowed to smoke in the house only outside or in his car. At this point since he is hardley ever home between working full time and going to school half time{4 weeks to graduation!!!!} and girlfriend not allowing it wouldn't happen. He knows the the risk he taken starting young.

This is just my opinion, but I would think that someone who could only catch a smoke on the fly, thereby smoking much less often, would have a better chance at not becoming addicted.
zz --> unfortunately a lifetime smoker
Kinda hard to break the habit when she is surrounding by poor role models, especially if these role models see no problem with their behaviour. My father was a heavy smoker. He made it quite clear that he wished better for me,that smoking was an addiction that ruined his life and his health. He died at 54 from a massive heart attack. I have never smoked in my life and I grewup when most people did,in the 50s &60s.
Call the Cancer Society. Perhaps they can tell you of a program you can get your DD involved to help her learn the very real dangers of smoking. If they don't care about their health, maybe they will care about the health of those arround them. You, as a non-smoker, have a very real chance of developing smoking-related health problems, include cancer, because of second hand smoke. That stuff is full of toxins!
Nag your mother. Death from lung cancer and breast cancer (smoking is one of the causes) among women is on the increase. It is fast coming the leading case of female deaths.
Good Luck
(At the very least, insist that the smokers DO NOT smoke infront of you ir near any other other non-smoker in your home. They may not care about their health but they have no right to put your life in danger. ).
