Hi,

I am not a frequent "poster" to this board but need some helpful advice. My husband wants to take a temporary assignment in Hawaii, island of Oahu for about 5-6 months. I am concerned about the effects this will have on my dd who is 13 and in the 8th grade which is middle school around here. It would not be a permanent move but would come in the middle of her school year. She is pretty content here right now and hasn't ever lived anywhere else so she has all her friends here, etc although she seems to make friends anywhere she goes. I am more concerned about the quality of school experience, boredom (she is our only child so has no sibs to help out here), and being outsiders. We have travelled there on vacations and enjoyed it. I have heard the schools are tough there and that the kids/locals resent outsiders. Also, we would probably have to live in a condo in

You are really making me excited about going now! I know what you mean about girl's schools-the closest we have would be Vancouver BC and of course we would have to cross the border every day! I could see my daughter getting excited about learning hula, she would be good too. Hope she gets the chance. Thanks!!!
