Hello, everyone...I have been posting on the board for a few months now, so one way or the other, I guess I'm a *regular*...I am not shy so I will just blurt it out, DH went into the hospital last week with pneumonia and was discharged yesterday with lung cancer. We have a long, hard road ahead of us...I am a very strong person especially when I have a *purpose driven* life. I am asking for prayers, positive thoughts, whatever your belief system is, for my DH and my family. We have no health ins. so if you know of any resources out there, I'd appreciate that info as well. First call tomorrow, American Cancer Society.

DH is 49, he quit smoking cold turkey 3 years ago, and his last chest Xray about 2 years ago was clean. We are hoping this is not too advanced, but there is more testing to be done and of course the secondary infection must be cleared up as well.

Thank you!

Oh Jane, I am so very, very sorry about your DH. I am really angry at all those cigarette companies who knew for so long the consequences of smoking, but kept it quiet. In this day and age, I can't even believe our government, who has so many other rules and regs in place, still allows the manufacturing and selling of cigarettes. Now off my soapbox.

I will keep you, your DH and your family in my thoughts every day and hope for a healthy outcome, both physically and emotionally.

Take care and be careful not to let yourself become run down - your family needs you to be strong and healthy right now - so sleep, eat and let friends help take care of you.

Jane,

I am sorry to hear this awful news. I will certainly keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers! Like others have said, keep in mind that it was caught early. Try to keep a positive attitude about his recovery.

As for the financial side of it,

So sorry to hear the bad news. It does sound like they caught it early; let's hope that means a good prognosis for him. Sending hugs and prayers your way....

It is scary to think how many Americans are without health insurance. DH's appointment is a renewable one, not permanent, and I often worry about being able to afford insurance should he lose his job. I'm thinking of going back to work full-time, not cuz we need the money, but just to be sure we have health insurance. It's crazy! That's one reason we're voting for Obama--he'll get us closest to universal health care. Hillary wimped out in the early 90s, caving in to the insurance industry.

Two of my uncles died of lung cancer and I worry about my sister & brother-in-law. They're in their early 50s and both smoke, and drink too much. It can be quite difficult to stop. I quit about 20 years ago, and DH followed a few years later. After my dad, a nonsmoker, had his first heart attack I figured I had the same bad heart genes and decided I needed to quit; within a month, I did. I was on a four-day business trip with nonsmokers, and that made it relatively easy.
