"Torture your Teen" day at DD's school

OK, well, actually they call it "Open School" day, and parents get to come follow their kids around for the day. But "torture your teen" has such a nice ring to it! At first, DD tried to get me not to go ("no one's parents come after 9th grade!"), but now she says she's looking forward to it. She has only four classes on Friday (I think I can pass on gym!) and then I said I'd take her friends out to lunch.
I can't wait - I honestly will try not to embarrass her -which includes not talking directly to teachers, not greeting kids unless they greet me, and NOT talking to boys LOLOL sounds like a teenager!

Our middle school does one of those torture days too -- but I think it's mostly torture for us parents! Ugh ... it's such a long and exhausting day. I pass on the gym thing usually too. Some moms are really determined to embarrass their kids on this day; they bring their running shoes and actually run that mile with their kids. Show offs. Poor kids.
DD actually had fun with the whole thing when she was there. The teachers typically plan some sort of silly activity to involve the parents. DS, however, would be happier if I didn't even show up at all, let alone participate.
Have fun and let us know how it goes!
P.S. They actually call it 'Shadow a Student Day' here. But I like 'Torture Day' much better. I think I'll suggest it to the school administration.
I've never heard of such an event.
I couldn't imagine any of my kids agreeing to this in mddle school, but at the high school it would be fun for both of us.
Except I have my own version of "torture your teen" day on an almost regular daily basis here.
Yesterday DD had a friend over to do homework. They we're listening to U2. I came downstairs and said they we're a really good band... except WHY would they call themselves "you also"...hmm
Allie cracks up laughing while DD says, "Don't mind my dad, he just does stuff like this all the time. He thinks he's funny." (glare...)
Oh... it's such sport!
Sue,
I think it's a great idea to show the parents a typical day. We don't have anything like this offered here, but I too would go - I can only imagine the "rules" my DD would try to tell me before though, lol. Btw, DD has been trying to convince me to apply with her to that MTV show, Try My Life. She thinks I couldn't hack HS all over again - and she's probably right, lol!
This sounds like an excellent donation for one of the school clubs or SGA or Project Graduation. For a small donation, the parents get to follow their students around. As a freshman or sophmore, DD would have cringed. But as she got older, she was used to my being in the school on a regular basis. I was one of the yearbook sponsors so I was at alot of school events whether DD was involved or not. She honestly didn't even notice me by the last 1/2 of senior year!
