Since I'll be Breeby sitting full time soon, I want a car seat for *my* car.

Kimmy, Emma will be 5 in 2 months and she has been on the top bunk since last summer. It was more out of necessity than anything, I would have preferred to wait until closer to her 5th birthday. But it has a railing and we haven't had any issues yet with her falling out. The 2 1/2 year old we have to watch, she likes to climb up into it and after falling off the 3rd rung up once, she always tells us she is going up into it so we can "spot" her as she goes up and down. But it's very rare that she goes up. The only thing I would mention for the top npbunk is, if you get a super thick mattress, it goes pretty far up and negates most of the railing room. So use a measuring tape before buying a mattress, or the bunk with railing if you already have the mattress to make sur there is a comfortable amount of railing room.

Heck, even as a seasoned mom you forget those things. My oldest really didn't get into much, but the middle one, if she could get her finger or hand in it, she would get something stuck in it eventually or put stuff that didn't belong there in the hole. Her old sitter said she needed to grow up and be a professional baby proofer because she found everything little thing that she hadn't babyproofed in her in-home daycare! Emma was about 3 when we were picking up a pizza and she picked up a penny in the pizza place's parking lot. I was in a hurry and didn't even give it a thought since she put it in her pocket of her coat. 5 minutes down the road she told me she had swallowed it and starting coughing. I completely freaked out!! Urgent care visit, then x-rays, then watching for it in stools to make sure it eventually came out a few days later. And like you said, the littlest one wants to do everything the older one does! She by herself is not too bad and doesn't usually get into much, but she'd follow her sister to the end of the earth, down a busy street into a pool, if given the opportunity.

"A few weeks ago I saw a news story on one of the evening news programs about multigenerational households like “the Waltons” and ours.

All this reminds me of the joke about Harry S. Truman, which even Harry thought was funny.
