Trolls

Have you ever been on a message board where there's a "troll" - someone pretending to be someone they're not? I have - several years ago on another board - for moms of kids my DS's age. In that case, the "mom" posting had an improbably sad story, nothing ever went right, every horrible thing that could happen, happened to her. Each post she'd give out a little information, and kept people posting back to her time and again. Some folks even emailed her "off the board" and got very attached. In the end, the majority of posters came to believe she was a fake - it caused great division among board members - some folks actually tried to find her IRL and failed.

We spend so much time talking about how to keep our kids safe on the Internet, that we forget it's new to us, too. So, be wary of people whose stories don't ring true. We've got a great group here, but it wouldn't be hard for someone to fake us out.

Sue, mom to Leah and Seth

To each his own, if people and their kids feel comfortable posting pics here that is their business. But on Facebook, there are privacy controls. You can control who can see your pics. I am on Facebook under my own name but I have strict privacy controls. Only my family and those on my very restricted network have access.

If one's kids have no problems with their pics being posted, that's fine. But my kids are not comfortable with it.

Wisconsinites have been taking unfair heat about Brett Favre for a long time. Hey... he was born in Gulfport Mississippi. It's not Green Bay's fault that he can't correctly spell his name.

The King of Siam?? really ! I'll have you know, I have much more hair than Yule Brynner ever did.

I *did* find something called the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Alas.. I am not their king. I'm not even a dues paying member...

I moved away from Wisconsin 6 years ago and I'd give my right arm for a good ol' Friday night fish fry!! I've actually had root beer and Kringles shipped to me out here on the East Coast! =)

You have fish fry night on Fridays too? I thought that was just a Buffalo, NY thing? Here is came from having so many Catholics in the area back when Catholics never ate meat on Friday. The Friday night fish fry is a big thing around here, we even have contest as to what restaurant makes the best fish fry in the area.

New York is probably much different than Wisconsin.

In Wisconsin, they all use the term "white fish" in advertising their fish frys.
