I have ALWAYS had a hard time sleeping.
- Does she get any physical activity? If she begins to work out, even just walking, it'll help. Make sure she tries getting physical activity at least 3 hours before bedtime, and go for 30-60 minutes EVERY day. This is what I've noticed has made the biggest difference. I work at the YMCA and when I was complaining to one of my coworkers, a physical trainer, this is what they suggested
- Make sure her room is dark. Try hanging a thick blanket over the window, covering up or unplugging any lit up clocks, putting something in the crack underneath the door, etc. I keep my bed in the closet to make it pitch black.
- Keep the room cold. Not freezing cold, but people sleep better in the cold, and the sleep is usually deeper. Use fans, but don't have any of them pointing directly at her.
- If she spends alot of time doing homework, listening to music, etc. on her bed, that can hinder sleep. The bed should be only for sleeping.
- Obviously, stay away from sugary foods caffinee (preferably all day) and don't do alot of activity right before bed. It's hard, but it also helps to stay away from homework, TV, Computers, Videogames, and loud noises before bed.
- If it's been 30 minutes, and she's still not in bed, it helps to get up out of bed and do something quietly, like reading something simple, for 15-20 minutes, and then getting back into bed.
- Try a loud fan or noise machine.
Hope something helps!
