Turning the tables on my DD

Y'know how we always talk about things our teens do that drive us nuts? Well, I realized this week that there are two things that bug my DD, and one of them takes absolutely no effort from me. So, lol, I say how cool is that? I can make my DD nuts without even trying! The first thing is a verbal habit (bugs her like her "yeah..no" bugs me) - when I want to tell or ask her something, I start with "Hey... Lee?" She cringes because she knows whatever follows is a request to do something. I say it's just a way to get her attention, to make sure she hears whatever comes next, but I"m trying to do it less. The other thing that bugs her is she says I have one hair in one eyebrow that is curling in the wrong directoin and will I let her pluck it PLEASE. That's the one that makes me laugh - I don't have to do anything but leave my eyebrows alone and it makes her nuts LOLOLOL

I'm guilty of the exact same thing that also bugs ds14 - "Hey...Matthew?" usually gets a sullen, "What?!" as if he knows I've got something for him to do or hear that he won't want to... ;o)

LOL, I know what you mean. It's a sure thing I'm bugging my DD when she looks at me holding her eyes wide open, gives her head a little shake and asks 'WHAT?' As in ' WHAT do you want NOW?' I can see how hard she is trying to be 'patient' with her poor, dumb, annoying old mom. Makes me giggle every time!

I was thinking the same thing last night after this 'discussion'. I was going to the den to tell ds something good, but started it the same, "Hey...Matthew" way...getting the usual defensive-toned "What?". I almost LOL'd. Obviously he was pleased with what I came in for...but I had to chuckle at the predictable response (I always do - this has been going on for a while).

This is what I do when I feel the urge to aggrivate my 14yo dd. (Goes both ways in our house - LOL!)

ME: "Hey.... Becky!"
Becky: "What?"
ME: "Becky!"
Becky: "What?!?!"
ME: "BECKY!!!"
Becky: "WHAT!?!?"
Me: "I love you, sweetie."

Becky: "Oh my god, you are such a dork!"
Me: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

"Hey... Becky..."
"NO!"

my personal favorite...

Hey, Grace! ... What (with irritated teen response full of attitude because she is about to be asked to DO something) Then I follow with "nothing!" or "nevermind" Drives her nuts! Makes her get demanding, she really wants to know what I called her for, then it's too late, I've got her on the hook and we can't go back to "nevermind!" LOL
