Update on DS

Hi Everyone,

So on goes the saga with DS. July 23 date has come and gone. Due to the issues with finding a vehicle (took a month) I pushed his date out two weeks. We finally found him a car (an older one but in not bad shape). It's cheap on insurance anyway and I wont feel so bad if something happens to it.

He did apply to the video store last week but didnt receive a response. It took me awhile to figure out why they didnt hire him. I think i mentioned to all of you about the MSN chat he had with a girl at school last October and about how easy it was to make a bomb and maybe he should bomb grad etc. He was just joking (I know, stupid joke) but the girl thought he was serious and took the copy of the MSN chat to police. Anyway, I guess news got around school even though it was supposed to confidential, that he did this so my son has been blackballed around our small town by the looks of things. When I went into the video store a couple of days ago, I noticed that one of the girls moms that he went to school with works there part time. I'm sure she saw his resume as he said she was working there when he dropped it off. She probably would have told the manager of what happened in school and probably not to hire him. It's really too bad because its the only business worth him working at in our small town. I am just sickened over the fact that most of the school knows of this occurence and probably a lot of the town - I am really embarrased and feel bad for my son and also my daughter who starts at the high school in a couple of years. Hopefully they wont put two and two together then and realize she's his sister.

Anyway, I told DS last night that seeing as the car is back from mechanics and he has gas in it that he must go on the job hunt today. I helped him look for some possibilities online and in the paper and we came up with 5 that he would be interested in. Printed off resumes for him this morning and now will wait to see if he does what he's supposed to do. Told him that if he doesnt go out and start hunting today, I will be removing all computer equipment from his room until such time as a job is found - dont care what it is.

Sigh - these kids are going to drive me mental. By the way, is there a board here that deals with adult kids at home? I guess I'm grown out of this one now (until my 13 year old daughter starts causing me grief - ha ha)

They refer to the young adults as AIKs which took me way too long to figure out

Hope he fills out those apps

he might do well to mention that rumor in any interview he manages to land. Bring it into the light up front, not hiding it as a secret, and giving him the opportunity to explain before any conclusions are jumped to. Do you have temp agencies in your town? They hire nearly anyone, so people can get a start sometimes that way.

I called home yesterday around 11 am and DD said he was still sleeping. Thought great, the war will be on when I get home but then amazingly he called me an hour later asking me directions on how he needs to get to these places to apply for! I was totally amazed! So he did go out and put the apps in - yay!!! Praised him for this big time but told him that if he doesnt hear anything soon, he has to suck it up and get something else that maybe doesnt appeal to him as much, but it has to be some sort of job. We'll see what happens the first of next week. He's sure enjoying his car though and I'm thinking the fact that he needs to come up with $400 by the end of October for insurance as well as gas to run the thing might be a big motivator.

As for telling prospective employers about the "incident", no way. Why carry a "rep" with you where you go? He's trying to get away from it and the city we live near has like 800,000 people so I dont think it will be an issue but thanks for the suggestion all the same.
