Weekend Winter Storm

Anyone else shut in this weekend due to weather?

I'm just sitting here next to the fire with nothing much to do.
DD is having her BF and two other couples over for dinner and and fondue dessert.
They had plans to go out to dinner tonight, but I wouldn't let her out on the roads in this weather, so they're all coming over here.
I do find it odd that apparently I'm the only parent that takes "freezing rain" seriously...

Actually, no .... it's positively glorious outside in San Diego today. Don't know the temp, but earlier today I took DD and DS over to a nearby open-space preserve for a long hike in shorts and a t-shirts and I was quite comfortable. Coming from me (who gets grumpy when the temperature drops below 50) it must mean it's warm.

That particular outing was followed by double-scoops of ice cream from our local ice cream/video/pizza place which was then followed by a major sugar crash on my part.

I promised DS I would play tennis with him after the hike and I could barely pick up my feet enough to move. Needless to say, DS beat me. Badly.

Sounds like fun!

I really do enjoy the Minnesota seasons.
Except around March and April. Enough already!
I'm ready to move to San Diego those two months. It is such a wonderful place!

I could use a hike in shorts and t-shirt right now.
If I recall, your DS is quite the tennis player.

That IS kind of the draw back of living in a place like this -- no seasons! Well, we do have them, I guess: warm, hot, really hot and raining. Okay, that's not exactly true ... we did have some freezing weather in January. Frozen birdbath, icy sidewalks, the whole nine yards. We've had so much rain in the past week that there is standing water in both the front and back yard. The hyacinth bulbs I planted last were putting up their shoots when the big rains came, and I am very happy that they didn't drown! They are already blooming and look so spring-y!

DS has recently started playing in some Friday afternoon tennis matches at a nearby golf and tennis resort. He has been very nervous and hasn't played especially well, but he isn't intimidated. In fact, he asked for additional lessons with a private coach!

And ... as I recall, you trekked cross the country on your bicycle and started in San Diego. What route do you ride? I'm thinking you must have rode parallel to Interstate 8, which would have taken you right through the town I live in!

For us it's just flood warnings; loads and loads of sheets of diagonal rain. But otherwise not so bad this round. Now that we bought a generator a couple weeks ago, we're sure to have power forever (lost it 5 days last summer and another 5 in Dec).

Ohhhhh...I envy you. Like you, I can't take temps <50, and I've lived in WI and MI all my life. 51 years of it is enough--I am so looking forward to moving to VA where it's at least a little warmer. We got to talking about hot flashes at work one day this week, and I said I can't wait for them to start cuz I'm always freezing. I was told, "be careful, you REALLY don't want them."

Think we'll get some freezing rain tomorrow, maybe some snow, but don't think we'll get hit like MN, WI and IL.

Truly, it is days like today that make me never want to move away from here. Of course, when its 111 degrees in July I think differently!

DH wants to leave California for Colorado. He has a serious horse habit and big dreams of acreage with a house, barn, corrals ...

After the snow the state of Colorado has had this year, I'm sort of re-thinking that plan!

We're snowed in here to0 daddioe, blowing and drifting something awful. We had freezing rain this afternoon, but now it's all snow. Z is staying with his g/f's parents until the roads are clear, N is over at T's house (though that's only a few blocks away and his mom is bringing her home in a couple of hours), DH, J and I are watching tv - in between my trips to the bathroom to paint. I'd planned on doing some redecorating in there this weekend anyway - and this way I don't get quite so distracted. Hubby says we're probably in for another day of this - yuck!!

We lament not having "seasons" here also. Just straight from 105 temps to freezing.. or so it seems!!!

But this weekend will be in the 70's and very nice.

Good luck to everybody freezing this weekend. Ya'll can return the sympathy this summer when we're roasting!

Yes! I started at the Ocean Beach Dog Park for pictures with the ceremonial ocean tire dip. From there it was Sea World Drive, to Friars Road, to Mission Gorge Road, into Santee, then Lakeside, then Lake Jennings Park, then on to Alpine.
I think my route was a bit further north than you. Are you in Spring Valley?
The climate and scenery were beautiful.
