My now 18dd first went to a gyno at 15, due to a sexual assault. For a UTI, her regular DR should be able to treat that. However, if your regular DR suggested your dd see a gyno, I recommend it. There may be reasons to believe that your dd's UTI is related to some type of sexual activity, as is common. Also, there are more and more gynos out there who specialize in a younger group of patients. I recommend you contact your insurance to find one who will put your dd at ease and feel more comfortable.
Just because someone is getting birth control pills doesn't mean they need to see an gyn. The family dr. can prescribe it, but that being said, I did take my dd to the gyn to get bcp's and she said there was no need to have
My DD's are 12 and 15 in Dec. They haven't been yet. It is a topic of discussion tho. along with sex and all that other good stuff that goes with parenting. My m.o. is this...ideally I'd like them to wait until they are older (much) to have sex. That said, if they simply can't wait, they must come to me ( and comfortably) because they need to see a doctor first...an exam, b.c. of some sort, and the series of shots for HPV...I tell them if they are mature enough to have sex they have to be mature enough to go thru the medical neccesities first.
Course, I'm not dumb. No guarantee at all they will do as I request, but I can hope, and keep the lines of communication wide open. I think I will definitely take them before they graduate..
I have a question for those of you who have taken your DD's...do you go into the exam room with or did your DD go in alone?
I specifically asked my gyno when my DD should come in.
dear sunny,have all boys sooooooo
They start having pap smears when they are sexual active or when they are 19/20. That's what we were told,

Hi - dd was put on YAZ which I'm told a lot of teen girls are being put on because of acne.
Hi - I went into the exam room with dd to help her give the inital information and family medical background.
