My boys were late bloomers so I never had to set an age. DS3 will be 16 in November;should he get the nerve to ask a girl out, we will be thrilled!.
I will say, just from being on the board for so long, those who date at 13 or 14 seem to run into a disproportionate amount of problems. They dont seem to have the ability to regulate their emotions yet?
If your girls arent chomping at the bit to date, I wouldnt be thinking of encouraging it.
I think it depends on the kid but as a rule of thumb we allowed group dating (large mixed groups of kids going to a public place or chaperoned party, etc.) at about age 15-16.
My dd was in group dating situations at about 14, it was always with a group of kids or our family or the boys family. Even this past May and June when she went to the proms she was with another couple.
When she met a really nice guy this summer she went out with him alone in his car and that was the first time for that, she is 17. She never went out with anyone that drove before that more than as a friend. Guess I have been lucky in that respect.

I don't have any girls, but my ds20 had his 1st "real" date when he was 16.
