I'm mostly shuttling the kids this summer. We've done some fun family things like take the dog to dog beach, ocean kayaking, go sailing at night to see the fireworks, movies, BBQ's with friends, ect. We've gotten to see tons of theatre this summer which is a real treat (like 10 shows so far and most of them for free!) I help out a bit with the kids youth theatre program and my mom friends do too... that's fun and social for me. With the kids getting older and active this summer, DH and I have had a lot of time alone. Last weekend we walked the beach town, went lovely places for lunch and talked.... so wonderful to have real time together again! Our family vacation is coming up in August. We're going to Vegas with a couple other families we are close to as well as going to the Grand Canyon just us.

It's been busy but not nearly as busy as the school year. All-in-all, it's going wonderfully.

I was going to complain about not having too much fun this summer until I read your post--it could have been worse. I know what you mean about going to dr's appts. My DS 14 went to his regular checkup I think in May and since then he's gone to the allergist, neurologist (he has epilepsy), orthodontist (just got his braces), orthopedic (to check for scoliosis, which doesn't look like it will be a problem) and dermatologist. Then I was driving home yesterday and the pediatrician called to remind me I haven't seen the optometrist yet! yes cause I work full time & have nothing else to do. I do have to get him checked before school starts, so I have to hustle.

My DS has been having a great time--he has lucked out since several of his friends (It actually seems like most of them) have pools, so it's like he goes to a different one's house every day to go swimming. DD is also home from college--she works part time at Express--all different hours and when she's not working, she goes to the beach or goes out w/ friends. I am the only bored one who has to still work full time. But in 2 weeks I will get a week off & I'm taking the kids (and DD's friend) to New Hampshire for a few days. At least I'll get to sleep late and swim in the pool--I made sure to get a place that has both indoor & outdoor just in case.

It seems that my summer has been one drama after another! The nursing home where I work was sold to a new owner on June 1, and while that has turned out to be nothing but a good thing for the people who live there and the line staff, it's made a TON of extra work for the managers (all of whom were kept on). It's starting to get better, but we aren't out of the woods just yet and I've been putting in a ton of extra hours.
My DS is still going through a divorce... he and his wife tried to work on things for about 6 weeks earlier this summer, and that ended up going very badly... and since he lives here, all of that drama came to rest on my doorstep.
My FIL decided to move from the farm to an apartment in town, and between moving him and getting things ready for sale at an auction later this month, every weekend has been taken up. Doesn't help matters that DH has a sister who has *serious* personality issues and has been ranting at everyone any time she sees them... she's 90% of the reason FIL decided to leave the farm - she lives on the same farm.
On a more fun note...
DS and I went camping with DD and her fiance for a weekend, and it was just the break from craziness that I needed! Hopefully DH and I will go again the last weekend of this month.
DS # 2 was home on leave the last two weeks of June before he heads to Afghanistan for a year. He spent a lot of time with a really sweet girl... no real relationship in the works because of his deployment, but if he weren't leaving..... there are strong possibilities there. She's in the Army Reserves, so she understands how the whole military thing works and says she's going to hang around and wait for him to get back (she's 24, so not quite a star struck teen anyway)... and she's going to see him this weekend.
DS #3 was home on leave the first 2 weeks of May... he's been in Iraq since last August. A few weeks ago we traveled to the Seattle/Tacoma area to watch him get off the plane with the rest of the unit when they came back to the states - exhausting trip, but a lot of fun.
DD and her fiance moved from 10 miles away to 3 doors down the street the middle of July... it's been nice having her closer, but on the other hand, it also means that she hangs out here a lot more while he's working.
In a couple of weeks DD and I will be traveling to Ft Campbell KY to wave "see ya later" to DS #2 as he gets ON the plane to Afghanistan, and we'll be bringing a bunch of his stuff home, closing up his apartment. Going to spend an extra few days in Clarksville to relax before we come home.

AND once September rolls around, I fully intend to spend some time JUST for *ME*! LOL It looks as though things will be settling down some, DS #3 will be home on leave again before he moves to Ft. Hood TX... but I think I'm going to spend a weekend holed up with a good book or something somewhere in there! LOL

This summer and last summer have both been incredibly busy because of my sons' comings and goings. I used to say "it'll be nice when they all grow up and move away and I can actually relax and enjoy the summer) but it's only gotten busier since they've moved away!

Did I forget to add that I made a baby quilt for my nephew's baby, a bridesmaid dress for my niece, and have started my daughter's wedding gown? ;) My sewing machine wants a vacation too! ;)

Quiet here

My DH's company was taken over by another, bigger firm in May. I was hoping that his work hours would be not be as demanding after the take over. But he is working even longer hours. Not all of the employees were kept on, about half were let go. So, they didn't have a great summer.

My hours have also increased this summer. I am on tight-schedule project which, summer or no summer, has to get delivered on time. I don't mind since it means more money.

The kids have both spent a quiet summer, working and saving money. DD has been spending time with her boyfriend and their friends, playing board games and just kicking back. This house has been full of the laughter of young adults; nice to hear. She moves away early September for grad school so I am relishing this last summer she is home. Everything is arranged for her move but it is still going to be a hectic few weeks.

DS goes back to university Labor Day weekend; classes start a week latter. He has been hitting the books in his spare time; getting a leg up on his classes this year. He has also being part of the board game marathon taken place many nights after supper on my kitchen table.

Come this fall, I will "officially" have no teens left. DS turns 20.
