So it's an outdoor wedding with a casual barbecue reception in a tent, followed by dancing (with a caller!) It will be either hot and humid, or hot and raining with thunder and lightning. The wedding ceremony will be moved inside to the sanctuary if that happens, but the reception will still be in the tent.

I will be wearing a

I think the collard shirt and dress pants, and if the black sneakers at a glance pass for shoes, your son will look great for a casual outdoor wedding.

I think nice trousers and shirt and tie is fine, you can always take the tie off outside,. i would get dress shoes though. Gym shoes always look tacky in a church wedding.

I don't think a jacket is necessary for what sounds like a fairly casual wedding. A few years ago dh's nephew got married outside with the big blow out tent reception - dinner/open bar/etc. Jason was an usher and was asked to wear khakis and a Hawaiin shirt. I don't think many of the men even wore jackets - dress pants, button down shirts and some wore ties. Your dress sounds beautiful BTW!

ITA, and I'd even venture to say a short sleeved dress shirt with tie and khaki pants is fine, with loafers. That's pretty much what the kids here wore to middle school 'commencement' and also HS graduation (some wore suits, some didn't). DS18 still doesn't have his own suit - he just borrows from dh - same with sport coats; he has his own slacks but borrows the rest (he and dh are an inch apart in height, but definitely different beyond that)

Thank you, that's good to know. And I think you live in the same region as I do, so your advice is culturally appropriate!

Honestly, I think a dress shirt & tie is fine w/o a jacket esp. where it's a kind of casual reception in a tent, not a country club really fancy kind of wedding.
