What's Halloween looking like?

Is your teen still into Halloween? My DD still loves it - for a couple of years, she was 'too cool', but now she and her friend "I" love to dress up and stroll the commercial street near our house - it's the prime teen hangout! They don't have school on Halloween, so I'm not sure what she'll do all day (come to work with me?). She doesn't have a costume, yet, but she's looking for the right combination of things!
DS7 LOVES Halloween! NYC Public School don't allow Halloween parties, but our school has traditionally done a "Come as your Favorite Book Character" day, to give the kids, especially the young ones an excuse to dress up anyway. For Trick-or-Treating, he's going to be a ghoul (mostly with his own clothes and dress up stuff we have, and white makeup with grey sunken eyes).
I like Halloween, so I'm glad my kids are still into it. We don't get a ton of trick-or-treaters, but there are enough houses still giving out candy to make it fun!

I hope that you don't mind me joinning you here!! Virginia
DS14 stopped trick-or-treating at 11 (as well as family birthday parties). He does love helping his dad give out candy at the door and seeing who comes by, though. And he enjoys decorating the house - we've had it done up pretty well in the past, including playing creepy music for when they walk up, and dh has even dressed up to greet the kids.
The nice thing here about Halloween (unlike growing up in Chicago) is that it's always done on Halloween night, regardless of day of the week, and trick or treating is only from 6pm-8pm.

Oh yes! Halloween is a pretty big production where we live and everyone dresses up and goes out. The kids wear their costumes to school that day -- the elementary school has a parade around the playground and the middle school has a costume contest. DD's school encourages costumes and I think they have costume contests as well.
Because we live in one of the few neighborhoods in town where you can walk from house to house, it is swarming with people on Halloween night. People come in by the van load to trick or treat. It is the only time during the year that people seem 'neighborly' and lots go all out that night decorating their houses and yards, turning porches into haunted houses, etc. I usually sit on the porch in a really creepy rubber mask to pass out candy. It usually scares all the little kids so much they won't even come near me!
We run out of candy in about 1.5 hours usually, but by this time, the kids have made the rounds to 1/2 the houses and come home to empty their bags. We pull out the candy no one likes and start passing that out instead. It's a pretty fun night.
DD has said she doesn't really want to trick or treat this year but she does want to dress up and go out. She is thinking about trying to get some of her old friends together that night and have a scavenger hunt instead. DS's best buddy will probably come over that night and trick or treat with him.
Costumes haven't even been discussed yet. I imagine I'll be glued to my sewing machine in about a week, trying to get them ready in time!
