Sue, I love that song too. I know a lot of people who don't because they don't want to hear sad songs at Christmas, but I love it anyway. I'm sure if I saw that play I would be in tears too.

I cry every year at candle light service too.

This afternoon DH and I went to the U.S. Army Blues & Jazz Band's Christmas program--Duke Ellington's Nutcracker Suite, and a few other Xmas favorites. DH would have enjoyed a program with some singing, but with my love for ballet and familiarity with the Nutcracker, I loved it! They are some awesome musicians.

What struck me was their stoic appearance. Only the bass player seemed to be enjoying himself, and the rest were "at attention" through most of the show--so unlike most jazz concerts where we can feel their love for music. (I guess it's that unnatural tranformation the military training invokes that engrains my pacifist feelings. I was fighting tears just watching them.) The director made a request that we all "pray, or, if we don't pray, then hope" for an end to the turmoil and the quick return of the troops in Iran and Afghanistan, and it was good to hear him say that. It almost sounded as if even those in the Army have had enough. But I think that is just my interpretation rather than his intention.
