When to have the first GYN exam?

DD will be turning 18 soon and leaving for college. She is not, nor has she ever been, SA, so I'm thinking it would be a good idea to get a baseline Pap and exam sometime this summer. Is this when it's typically done for non-SA girls or should she wait? (Yes, she has been properly educated on safe sex, and was on the pill for a time to regulate her periods.)

I think going prior to college is a good idea. Some of our friends insisted on putting their young teens on the pill "just in case" but not what we wanted. Not only did we want to delay the use of hormones but seriously, I can't see DD being religious about taking the pill yet.... she doesn't even get up at the same time everyday and most nights, she forgets to wash her face or put cream on a random zit, she doesn't even like to take tylenol for a headache. Rather not have her on the pill with bad habits thinking it's going to protect her.

I'm not AGAINST it by any means. If a young teen is sexually active... if it helps with terrible periods or acne problems... that's fine! I just didn't see it being a benefit for my own girl when she was younger.

Anyway, I degress! Unless we have reason to take her earlier, I plan on taking our DD summer before college. I know I went at 18 after I'd started college and I really would have liked my mom to be in the waiting room that first time instead of calling her long distance before and after.
