School here doesn't start until after Labor Day. 10th grade orientation is 9/5 (marked as Doomsday on our calendar) and classes start 9/7 (marked Doomsday #2, lol). I actually think my DD is gradually getting psychologically ready. She's stayed away from most school friends this summer (needed some space), but has been gradually re-connecting as people return from camp or vacations. She said today that she misses some of her friends, and told my parents that this year she's going to be really active in alot of things.

I don't do a huge "back to school" shopping with my DD. We'll get a few new things to jazz up the wardrobe, but we do better buying as the year goes along and she sees what she needs/wants. As for school supplies, we'll wait until she sees what she needs for each class.

How about your teen? Is he/she ready? Are you?!

You know, I've been wondering why our nation apparently has this great shortage of engineers, which some say will eventually come at great risk to our country, when it seems that everywhere I look there are these super high achieving kids. Could it be that as you say, they are not letting it sink in properly and thus not adequately prepared once they get to college?

My ds16's oldest and best friend is starting calculus this year - he's a junior!

DD starts 10th grade and appears anxious to get back. She spent the summer working at an ice cream parlor and I think school looks like a vacation!

She has a tough schedule this year. Honors classes in English, Social Science and science, pre-calc, Latin 2, Intro to Dance and AP Theater arts. I didn't have it that tough in 10th grade!

She has the clothes she needs and we'll wait on school supplies until after the 1st day which is Mon. When we went to get her schedule, locker, ID, etc. she was thrilled to have all her friends in one place again. A few of us moms drove about 12 of them to a Thai restaurant so they could have a little more time together. One of DD's friends had been away to camp that wss located at a boarding school for the summer. The head master was quite taken and offered her a full scholarship. She decided today that she'd take it so they are all teary-eyed and upset. There are 4 girls including DD and this one that are best friends.

I'm back to school too. My class list has only 16 names right now, but it's the only one with any real room so that will be short lived!
