Thank you, everybody, who offered me advice!

They came, we talked, we share a lot of the same parenting values, I think. They came in griping about the bad parking here in South Philly, just like I do when I have to park over a block away, and how there's always some neighbors who seem seedier than you want to have for neighbors, on almost every block LOL. They talked about their thoughts on letting the girls go off by themselves, the cell phones, security in the town, etc.

I feel a whole lot better, even though I still feel like they are putting more into it (financially & activity-level) then we have/can/plan to.

We did offer to take the friend with us if our other dd can't get off work; that's the only way there'd be space both in the car and the apartment we're renting.

And they brought famous South Philly canollis (because they don't know us and how dh can't do anything simply, so they also didn't know we'd have food -- a small bundt cake, some apple strudel, cheese & crackers, and develled eggs LOL). Canollis -- YUMMERSVILLE!

Thanks again, everybody. TTFN.

In peace,
Max

Thats a tough spot to be in, wanting to give your dd freedom but you still are a cautious parent. Luckily for her you are able to let go a little and trust her and the other parents. Luckily for me I haven't had to trust people I really don't know yet, but last year I was the other parent. We invited my (then 16) DD's frd along with us to Orlando. We asked them to pay for her park ticket for the week and we'd take care of the rest. At the time the family really didn't know us well, but after I sent a link to view the house we were staying in and talked to her mother for a bit she did allow her to go. The week was great for the 2 girls. My DD has never had another girl with her for the trip, and she's usually stuck doing stuff she doesn't want to do (5 ygr brothers). I think I was more worried about her that week than my own kids maybe, lol. At least your dd will just be right at the shore, no more than 2 hrs away most likely from s.philly.
