As if we don't have ENOUGH to worry about!
I just read this article about how companies are making canned whipped cream that has alcohol in it.
I have to agree with you that it's treated like any other product with alcohol in it - you have to be over 21 to buy it. It's not like it's just stuck in with the Redi-whip at the local grocery store (at least it isn't in our area). And I think anyone that ate enough of it would get sick long before they got drunk. Personally - I think a little dallop on top of my hot chocolate might taste good but to down a container of it - EWW. My ds's girlfriend got a bottle of it for her 21st birthday. DS said they each tried a dab but then sent it home with her mom because they didn't want to have the opened container in the car!
what the heck are these companies doing?
We have a liquor store/prepared food take-out place near us that sells that stuff. I had the same concern you did when I was picking up some pastries there and saw it on the counter, so I asked about it. They said they are legally required to card anyone who wants to buy it. Since access to this is as restricted as access to alcohol, the only reason teens can get it is because they take it from their parents, convince an over-21 friend to buy it, or they look older and have a fake ID.
