I had never heard of Winter guard, so I you-tubed a few videos. it's really amazing. It reminds me a little of show choir (which my girls did in HS). The dancing is really amazing. Where do these kids start - dancing? gymnastics? Do all of them use props like flags and batons? Are they part of the marching band color guard in the fall (that's what the color guard does, right? I don't think we have one). Anyway, it was very cool. Will she/can she continue this in college?
It's funny, I never heard much about color guard prior to this school year. I knew it existed but suddenly, it seems all the rage. It certainly is fun to watch and I'm all for any sort of art being included in school programs. Do they do this in the Spring too?
Good luck with the fundraising. :) I remember those days fondly... mulch, anyone? (why did we have to pick fundraisers that required lifting enormous bags of mulch?!?!). It's neat that she's become so invested in it. It sounds like a great extracurricular.
I used to know a number of guys who traveled with the Madison Scouts back in the 80s.... I LOVED drum corps. The Scouts weren't on the same plane as the Phantom Regiment or the Cavaliers, but exciting to watch none the less.

A few of the girls on my dd's squad, including dd, did dance at some point in time, most of them just love guard from marching season.
As you said, most Winter Guards begin because Color Guard caught the bug, and doesn't want the season to end!
