Dh left this afternoon to go back to his base. It was the last time we will see him before he goes "over there." DD has her cheering tryouts tomorrow. So far dd is holding it together pretty well. Everyone is telling her she will make varsity, but she is so not confident now. She HAS her back handspring, but will NOT do it on the ground with out a spot. She's done some flying with her competition team and some fronting as a base (she's not supposed to base) and she's confident with both, but she's convinced her coaches won't let her do either because of last year's events (all of her injuries). She is stronger than ever and her back has been 100% since the sport's doctor "realigned" her last month....

I hope she can handle it if she doesn't make varsity. It's pretty much a lock that all of her friends from JV last year will make varsity because of their basing capabilities... This will devastate her as she is the only one that has worked her butt off the entire summer going to gymnastics 4 times a week (only 1 is as close to the back handspring as dd).....every dime she made this summer went to this cause and then she lost her job when she hurt her back that time.

Her making Varsity will definitely ease this transition with her dad being gone. I know it sounds petty, but it would mean a lot. So please please please give dd some "Good vibes for having the confidence to do this!!" thoughts lol....

Sending "good cheer" vibes your dd's way. :) And it doesn't sound petty at all. We as grownups know that their world won't come to an end if they don't make varsity (or the team or 1st chair in band, etc) but these things are important to a kid. To this day, I still remember not making the cheerleading squad when I was a Freshman. I was crushed. No, my world didn't end, and I learned from it, but hey, it didn't make it any easier to live with at the time, ya know?? So, I hope your dd does well.

And good luck and best wishes to your dh, and you. You will both be in my prayers, as are all our service men and women.

Best of luck to your DD at tryouts. She'll probably be starting her sophomore year, right? Even if she doesn't make varsity this year, she could still be on the varsity squad her junior and senior years. I know it's tough when the friends make it and your child doesn't--happened to DS in soccer.

Thanks to your DH for serving in the armed forces. Even we peacniks know that the U.S. sometimes needs to go to war, and we appreciate those who are willing to so selflessly take risks, all in the name of freedom.
