In the middle of my lunch today, my cell rang. It was S, telling me he was in North Carolina, back from Iraq!! He'd just gotten off the plane and on the bus to head back to his base in Jacksonville, NC. He's back on US soil, and I'm doing the happy mama dance!! Woo hoo!!

That's the best news so far this year! Tell him we're proud of him, and of all the servicemen/women working for us over there. Give him a big "thank you" hug from us when you see him. I bet hearing The 'Star Spangled Banner' now will evoke emotions he didn't know he had, now that he's back home. I get chills up and down my spine just thinking of how your DS must have felt as his plane landed in NC.

I know you are jumping for JOY!!! Let your DS know we here are all proud of our servicemen & servicewomen performing a much unheralded duty for the freedom we enjoy.

Just don't hurt him when you squeeze him with that first hug. Remember how much you missed him the first time you want to shake some sense in to his head. LOL - Anna

Are you saying you're a military brat?? LOL My kids call themselves pseudo-military brats, DH was in the reserves by the time the kids came around, but the army did have an awful lot of control over our lives for a lot of years.

I probably won't be seeing him until May. He's saving his leave to come home for C's graduation from college in Deerfield IL, and because of things going on at work, with my right hand woman pregnant and due April 4 (and threatening pre-term labor all the time) I really am nervous about being that far out of town until after she's back from maternity leave. I probably could go to NC now, but S & C need some time to get used to just being a couple again, and I promised them I'd give them that time.

I don't know about the Star Spangled Banner meaning something new to S now, but I know that ever since he deployed I can't hear it without crying when they get to "the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air" - at least the friends that I sit with at high school ball games understand and are sympathetic when it happens. I think sometimes Americans romanticize what our forefathers went thru during our country's infantcy (sp?), but it really wasn't a whole lot different than what the people of Iraq live with today. It was a different level of violence because todays technology didn't exist then, but "bombs bursting in air" were a very real threat to them then.

LOL Anna - he's a big tough Marine, I doubt that an intense mama hug is going to hurt him! LOL However, I know that T (N's b/f) is a little afraid of what S might do when he lays eyes on him... not that T is not good to N, just that he knows S is HIGHLY protective of his little sis!

Gotta love our men!! My DD (16) boyfriend's are constantly receiving the "look" from both DH & DS (23). She exclaims "Mom do something they are staring at him again". But they always make them feel welcome. Lord only knows what they say when DD & I walk out of the room. LOL - Again, congrats on your DS safe return - Anna

Oh, Rose! What wonderful news! It has to be thrilling to have him back in the good ol' US of A. I am so proud of all of our men and women serving our country and I have a special place in my heart for the mothers of these men and women.

Hang in there, May wil be here before you know it and you can finally get your hands on him. :)
