Is there anyone out there dealing with the sadness and guilt of having to have placed your son in a long term residential treatment facility out of state due to substance abuse and mental health issues?

I haven't had to deal w/ this kind of thing myself, but I can imagine it must be really hard for you.

I've never been there/done that as far as residential treatment and substance abuse, but I most certainly do know the kind of worry a parent goes through with a depressed, substance abusing child.

I haven't gone through as much as you have. I do have a DS (14yo) who is on meds for ADHD (Concerta) AND depression (Prozac). It hasn't gotten to the point that it's gone with your DS, but I have considered that it could get bad enough that he would have to get residential treatment, and if it came to it, I'd do it.

You did the right thing. One day he'll thank you for it (though maybe not for a long while). Hang in there!
