Update and new issue

Well we have been on a good even keel lately and went to two family therapy sessions since my 16 yo daughter stayed away one night and lied, etc. It's been somewhat better...I still get attitude from her sometimes but she hasn't pulled anything scary lately. The therapy has been good. It forces us to talk about the big and not so big stuff going on when we are not totally upset and heated. It also gives us both a safe place to talk. At home, she usually shuts me off and says she doesn't want to hear anything from me but in therapy she has to listen. The counselor is showing us how we can come to meeting sometimes in th middle and also gives me support for the rules i have because the counselor says I am being reasonable.

The new issue today was daughter's cell phone sometimes shuts off randomly so she says that

I completely agree with you about DD getting the job first, then get the phone.

Instead of getting a Black Berry, she should take her phone back and find out why it cuts out periodically. It is the phone or the coverage of the service, doesn't work in some buildings etc? If it is the latter, it's no big deal. I would also check the transfer clause for her friend's BB. Personally, I think a 16 year old having Black Berries is unnecessary. My kids have them but they are in senior university/grad students and have to reachable by emails for seminars and other meetings they expected to attend in a day. But as teenagers and when they first started university, it would have been a waste of money. So, yes, if she wants to have a BB, she will have to pay for it herself. But remember, if it is her own money, you loose control over it. If and when she gets a job, also lay down the ground rules for working. And that is her marks come first before any job.

It's the phone battery, not service disruption. Verizon said they can't help us -- that we have to replace the phone or wait until her upgrade in June.
