Have the kids glue it on to black or dark blue paper so it will show up, and then glue silver glitter on the snowflake to make it sparkle. Put the glue and glitter in separate holiday themed cupcake liners (to make the table look more festive and for ease of clean-up), and have them use cotton swabs to spread the glue on the snowflake.

Another good way to do glitter - have a "glitter box" (you could even wrap it in Xmas paper to make it look nice). The kids put glue on their snowflake and then lay it in the box. They sprinkle the glitter over the snowflake WITH IT IN THE BOX and this will contain most of the glitter mess (which the teacher and janitor will most likely thank you for!).

What about cutting them out of coffee filters and then using watered down paint to make them colorful? It sort of soaks in as patterns
