6 yrs old old enough 2 to bathe herself?

I have BTDT on this too. My daughter will be 7 in May, and still seems to need some help, and her cousin has been showering alone since she was 4. (The girls are only a few months apart in age). I think it depends on how you feel about it. The cousins Mom isn't as picky as I am, and may not be paying as close attention, I don't know. But I know that my DD doesn't wash her hair well enough. She will soap up the top & call it done. We cut her hair a few months ago, she used to have long hair too, and that helps, but it still needs to be washed! You also need to stand outside of the shower & say did you wash your.... and name body parts. Usually I would get "Oh I forgot." After several times of letting her shower alone and going in 20 mins later & finding nothing washed & water all over the floor we said no more! She hates to take a bath alone, but will with DS just fine. So, we are currently back to both of them taking a bath in the "big" bath tub, we have a large garden tub in the master bath, one of us washes hair & they use loofa's to wash their bodies. I still remind her of certain things, like privates, but she seems to be doing better. I go by the you do what I want (wash yourself) you get to do what you want (play in the tub). Since we both work full time, and have lots of activities, I'd rather do it this way & know they are clean, than mess with the other way.
So to answer your question, I think some kids are & some aren't.

Both my boys take their own showers and clean themselves.
