Hi ladies!! My name's Erin, mom to Nikki (8) and twins (6) Ian and Jenny. This year for Christmas we decided to get my 8yo the NDS and origionally thought we wouldn't get it for the twins. Now we're thinking it may be a good gift for them also. They don't have a lot of experience with video games, only Leapster and V-smile, and I'm wondering if it's something that will come easy for them or frustrate them. Do any of your 6yos have it and what games do they play?? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I have two boys 7 and 5 and they both have gameboys. They love them and have been using them for a year now. I love them in the car and at restaraunts. We have limited time on them so they don't get board with them. They had no problem learning to use them. We vacation with friends who have two girls 8 and 11 and they learned by watching them. The twins will probably pick it up from the 8 year old if he doesn't mind them hanging over his shoulder once in a while. There are plenty of easy games for their age. Ask the sales person for beginner games. I recommend telling them when they ask for help that you don't know how to play the games. They will learn faster if you tell them to figure it out on there own and soon after that they will be telling you how to use it. They may put it down quick the first few times they play it but they will keep going back to it and adventually figure it out. Especially if they see the older child with one. If they are anything like mine they want what the other has.

the way that children, especially boys, are obseesed with that stuff & etc, I'm going to keep it from mine for as long as possible....if they're not asking for it, why bother?

Hi, Erin! My son is now 9 and just last year we allowed him to start using hubbys Playstation. Our concern is if we allow so much at such a young age, what do they have to look forward to when they get older? He does have a Game boy that he is allowed to use on trips or doc office visits for his sister and to us that is sufficient. I'm not looking to go broke any time soon! LOL!!!!

Good luck with your decision!!! Let us know what you decide. =)

Well, I ended up buying 3, one for each of my kids, and an arsenal of games. The NDS is just an updated version of the Gameboy. I have no desire to have a game system like PS or anything like that, at least not while they're this young (8 and two 6's). I have been playing them while they're at school so I can learn the games and be able to help them if they get frustrated. And having played the games, they're definitely going to get frustrated, lol. Esp my boy. His patience is about nil. But that's ok, he'll play them when he wants and if he decides it's just more trouble than it's worth, then he's always got his leapster and v-smile. Hopefully he'll grow into it.
