7 yo son too rough with little sister

Hi,

I have a 7 yo son and a 2 yo daughter. Most of the time my son is pretty well behaved and I am told by his teachers that he is polite, quiet, well behaved and gets along well with the other children in school.

My problem is this... He is really rough with his sister! He gets frustrated and angry with her especially if she gets into his toys and things and he pushes her down and hits her. My hubby and I have explained to him that it is not acceptable and that he can really hurt her because she is so much smaller and we have grounded him, taken favorite toys away etc.

I know that he loves her because he can also be really sweet with her hugging and talking with her and sitting and reading her books etc. He laughs at the funny things she does and kisses her every morning when he goes into school.

Is this just normal big brother roughness?

Hi,

I am sorry to hear that but I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes I feel like he just tunes us out and he can be sitting right on top her and she is crying and we are yelling and he does not even care! I too end up pulling him off of her. I just do not get why he can not understand that he can really hurt her. Let me know how everything goes for you okay?
