Does your 6/7 year old bathe or shower?

Alone or with someone?

Does he need help getting hair or body clean?

Brionna takes showers by herself. I will usually get the shampoo/conditioner in her hair for her and she rinses it out, I also usually wash her up and she rinses. She can do it herself though as she has before but it is quicker if I do it. LOL!

Derek pretty much does it all himself now, but I stay in the room. He turns on the shower, gets in and washes himself and his hair. He will usually ask me to see if he got all the shampoo out of his hair, but that's it. Then he dries himself off, puts his pjs on and takes off. It is so easy now! :)

In our bathroom, I have a large tub, and also a separate shower. So I usually bathe his little sister while he takes his shower. I am not completely comfortable leaving him to do it alone yet. But I'm sure he could.

my dds bathe together, and consider it such fun that the 6 year old REFUSES to shower. The 4 year old will, sometimes, with Daddy.

I need to remind like crazy to get the washcloth to touch all body parts, and as for hair, I tried a few times letting the 6yo do it herself, but she's not even CLOSE to getting it (misses most of her head, then doesn't rinse it all out)

Hence my question, lol.

Well, I think it is easier for my son at this age to wash his own hair then it will be for my daughter when she is seven years old. She has a lot more hair and it tangles so easily. My son has very short hair so it is quite low maintenence. :)

I think in this case, there is definitely a gender-specific advantage. I am not sure I would call it developmental. If my son had long hair, then he probably wouldn't be able to wash it himself either.

Gillian's hair is down to her waist and I can't imagine letting her attempt to wash it yet. She doesn't even like to wash her own body, so I do it for her after she's played in the bath tub for a while. She doesn't like the shower.
