Ay-yi-yi! I am experimenting with a craft idea for our First Graders' Holiday Party and it is NOT going well!

I found a recipe for Soapy Snowman Sculptures on-line. Supposedly you take 2 cups of Ivory Snow detergent and mix it with 1/2 cup water (they say using a hand mixer) until it is the consistency of dough. Then you are supposed to quickly shape it into three balls to make a snowman and decorate it with buttons, felt scarves, small twigs, etc.

I don't have a hand mixer, so I tried mixing with a whisk. When that didn't work, I dug out my electric mixer and tried that. Now it is just the consistency of glop!

Have any of you ever done this? Anyone have a better recipe? I am suddenly seeing the merits of just buying plain white playdough, but that will be a little spendy I think. I would just make regular playdough, but I don't think it turns out white - kind of brown, rather.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Susan

Just keep adding detergent until it gets a doh-like consistency. It'll happen, you just have to play with it.

Oh, by the way, another thing you can do is make sun catchers. Mix paint and glue and have the kids pour it onto plastic wrap. Once it dries, you can peel the paper and punch a hole in the top....ta da! There you go! =)
