Daughter is afraid of male instructors

Hello There!

I thought I'd throw it out there because I really don't know what to do. My dd is 5.5, there have been 2 occasions now that she has had a male swim teacher (one and one - just to add that in) and as soon as she saw the male instructor, she became very very upset. No matter how excited she was about doing her swim lessons for the past few days, talking about it non-stop...then to react completely opposite when the time came, is totally confusing to me. We had to completely cancel the session (I've had to do this twice now in which the swim class supervisor has kindly switched her to a female instructor led class) Why is this? Does anyone else have any idea what this could be about? Is this a phase or something more? When she was 4, she had 2 male instructors for her earlier swim classes and she was fine....but then again, there were 4 other children in the class. Could she just be really shy with being the only one with a male instructor? If there was another child, would it be better? I asked her this question, and she said yes...but with her, she is so predictable, yet totally unpredictable...so I am at a loss.

HELP!

Do you think there is any reason she is not as comfortable, does she have any male influences in her life?

My DD did the same thing!!! She actually did it with every man (even grandpa!) for a while except Daddy. Then it was like you said just
