Depression or what

I have a seven year old who has a horrible additude. He is very negative about everything. He will pout and cry about wierd stuff. Like he just got mad because He loses his pencils from his backpack "And pretty soon I'm not going to have any pencils left at all" He was so mad I'm not sure who he was mad at but he was very angry. I've tried to talk to him but all I get is "I don't know" How can you tell if something is wrong or if this is just normal for him. Should I talk to his doctor or a therapist? He is just not a happy kid even when somthing good happens. I think he has a pretty normal life. Loves to play football and doing soccer and swimming in the summer. Has friends at school, no problems there that I'm aware of. I guess I was thinking about this a little more and once in a while he will be in a good mood then he is bouncing off the walls, can't pay attention, and is too rough with his little brothers. I hope someone can help me we seem to never get along. Thank you

I absolutely think that it would be a good idea to talk to your pediatrician about this behaviour. Most schools have counsellors (at least in Saskatchewan where I live we do). My son Nic (11) has been in and out of counsellor's offices since he was seven. he and I have really had to work hard on our relationship and we still butt heads from time to time. I'm just hoping that it doesn't get worse as he gets older. I heard someone say once that boys get along better with their mothers, and girls get along better with their fathers. I don't necessarily think that's true...but you never know.

Hey good luck to you and your son. I know that there are some cases of depression in small children, I certainly hope that isn't the case with you!

Good Luck!
