Gift for a 7 y/o who has everything???

My niece is turning 7 next week and I'm completely stuck on gift ideas. I asked her mom for ideas. All SIL could offer was that she wanted to cut down on the toys.

So no toys, which is good because with four kids my SIL's house looks like an explosion at Toys R Us. I won't buy her clothes anymore because I've never seen any of the kids wear anything I've ever bought them.

My niece is obsessed all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies but she already has just about every item associated with the movie ever created: dolls, clothes, books, DVDs, costumes, even a table and chair set.

Crafts are tricky because she has three younger siblings, including 1-year-old twins who are about to start walking any day now. My niece has a tendency to leave things laying around, and crafts with their tiny pieces would be a disaster waiting to happen. I also know from personal experience with my own DD that most crafts require adult supervision. With four kids under the age of seven, I'm sure SIL doesn't have that kind of time.

I know she likes books, but I don't know how well she reads or what subject matter her parents will approve of. For example, my DD who just turned 8, LOVED "Mars Needs Moms" by Berkley Breathed. But I understand that many parents had an issue with that book. SIL and I don't see eye to eye on many things regarding our respective children, and I don't want to unwittingly overstep any boundaries.

Jewlery? This child is dripping in 18k gold every time I see her. Like her clothes, I can't afford that much "real" jewelry, and apparently costume jewelry is out of the question.

DVDs? Forget it; the moment a movie comes out it's in SIL's shopping basket.

I refuse to spend more money on American Girl clothes than I spend on my own.

Essentially my niece has everything, all of it well beyond our budget. What could I possibly get her? All I can think of an iTunes gift card and accessories for the iPod she's getting from her parents for her birthday.

My daughter and her friends are starting to get in touch with their silly side right now. They like those "pinhead" toys (the square "boxes" that have plastic rounded off pins in them.) You put your hand or face on them and pull them away and they leave the impression of what was on it. They also love those "sticky" hands that are strechy and stuff sticks to them. Silly putty is cool but might pose a hazard to little ones. Her friends also seem to like neat little notebooks and gel pens~kinds like a journal or diary.

You don't mention if you live close or not. If you do, I'd recommend giving her the gift of a good memory day as opposed to a "traditional" gift. Give her a gift certificate for a girl's day out. Take her to the pool, a movie, out to eat at a fun place, a local fair, the zoo, etc. Just a day (or afternoon) for her and you. I'll bet she'd love a little one on one time, especially since she's got lots of siblings.

Hope you find something helpful! BTDT with my brother's kids so I know what you mean.

What about a subscription to a magazine?

The itunes card is a great idea. I also really like the magazine subscription and the "girls day out." Along that theme, how about a gift basket with nail polish, manicure/pedicure tools and lotions? Most 7 year old girls would like that.

What about a blockbuster gift card to rent movies or video games?

What about Libby Lu gift card or Limited Two?

What about any CD's that are out?

What about a gift card to a pottery place so she can make herself something for her room?

Or a gift card to Claires to find some fun jewelry, purses, ect?

Computer games?

Build A Bear?

Hope that helps a bit

Actually, I think that is a very good idea. It's hard to buy for people who have everything. If you don't want to go with your idea, any other gift card would be a good idea.

My daughter turns 6 next week and though she doesn't nearly have anywhere near everything, she's still difficult to shop for. We got her an MP-3 player and I know some people are getting her gift cards. She will love them!!!!!

ipod accessories would be useful if she's getting one already-uhmmm at 7 lol! Our son has toys but not as much as you describe-but his b-day is right after christmas so when it comes around we always feel overwhelmed with toys. This year one of my favorite moms asked what her son could get as a gift and I told her I really didn't know because of all the stuff he got for christmas-she got him some really cool stuff like cool pencils and lava pencil sharpener and cool crayons and stuff-he loved it! his own little notebook too. Just a suggestion.
