Hi everyone I'm new here, Im usually on the Beach Babies 2007 play group! I have 4 kids, one boy who will be 7 in a couple of weeks. Three girls 5, 3, and 1! I have been noticing that my son has quite the attitude. I'm not really sure if it comes with his age, maybe because he's a boy maybe he's the oldest...I have no idea but need help!

He seriously complains about EVERYTHING! From the minute that I pick him up from school he starts fighting with his sisters. When I ask him to do something (anything) he stomps his feet and yells WHY or WHAT?! Some days it really hard to deal with it and stay cool. We try to do some extra things for him, like let him stay up a little leter than his sisters at night. Fun things with mom and dad ect. but it doesn't seem to help. Today when I picked him up from school it was a race with his 5 yr old sister on who got in the car first and they were hitting each other in the face! Then he says well I wanted to get in first! Well in my house EVERYONE wants to be first! LOL

I do think some of the attitude comes with the age.

I was thinking some more about your post and wanted to point you to a book that a good friend of mine really liked.

Hi Mom_jess2! This is my first time on this message board and your message stuck out to me! I have an almost 6 year old daughter in Kinder too, and I have the exact same problem! She will not let me pick out what she wears! I went to Old Navy and bought her about $200 worth of school clothes and she has yet to wear any of them.. She only wants to wear the same outfits over and over again..

I thought this was a girl thing, because she is very upsest with her looks. Her hair, shoes, clothes, ect. She even wants to wear mommys perfume. However she didn't get it from me! I am not that type of girl that puts on tons of make-up and wears high heel shoes and worrys so much about looks.

I would love to hear if anyone else has anything to say about this.

I can't relate with the attitude, but I can with the clothes. My DS is 6 1/2 and he WILL NOT wear a shirt with buttons - no dress shirts, no polo style shirts, not even pyjama tops with buttons. We think he may have hurt himself when he was younger trying to pull one over his head, he's been like this since he was about 4. We've also had regular battles about what to wear each day.

Now, I let him choose. He knows that I decide length (long pants or shorts, long or short sleeved shirts) but then he can decide. He's definitely picky, no buttons and blue denim jeans only, no black, no khakis, no cords...thank goodness his school doesn't have a uniform or a dress code, we'd be in big trouble! We used to fight about this every single day, then I realised that there would be bigger issues to fight over! :) and I try to bring him shopping with me when buying his clothes so he has some input. Then if he whines about something, I can remind him that he chose it, therefore he has to wear it!

He also knows that for special occasions I choose and he has to go along with it, no discussions allowed.

I remember having these arguments with my mom at this age! And I figure that we control so much of his life, it's good to let him have some decision making power (seasonally appropriate of course!), it seems to be working for us.
