My son recently discovered how cool the internet is. I was washing laundry and he was bored, so he asked if he could look at the internet. I told him, he was free to play with it, but I was not going to do any instructing...he had to figure it out on his own. In a matter of minutes, he had the whole navigation process figured out and ran upstairs to grab the cereal box where he'd seen www.millsberry.com . I can testify that www.starfall.com is the greatest website ever for children learning to read, because I use it in my classroom for my first graders and I encourage the parents to let their children use it at home. Now, my son is picking up "free websites" all over the place. Every time he sees one on TV he wants to try it. Last night we found www.piratesonline.com and it was pretty neat. It is based on Pirates of the Carribean, but it is kid friendly. (Warning: some downloading involved, mom needs to help!) Also, I downloaded a web-browser for our WII. On my favorite places, I've saved YOUTUBE. My son loves to search for Star Wars and Sponge Bob. I feel the need to monitor the youtube browsing, however there is no inappropriate content allowed on the site. I may have created a monster, as he's always begging to use the computer now...like mother, like son. Happy web-browsing!
