With the weather finally getting nicer, I was just curious if you let your child play outside by themselves?

We live on a street similar to what you are describing. We live on a dead-end road so I feel safe with the boys playing without too much worry. My rules are that they are not allowed to go inside anyone's house without asking first. I always set a time limit too... like check back in 30 minutes at 4:30 (or whatever it is). I'll poke my head out several times too.

That sounds pretty similar to how I handle it.

I don't think you are too relaxed. While I think that it is important to know what is going on, I also think it is important to allow them just a wee bit of independence. As long as they know what is acceptable and what isn't, and stay within those boundaries, I say let them play!
