Hi - I have a 6 year old DD. I just found this board and after reading some of your posts - I FEEL SOOOO MUCH BETTER! I thought something must be quite wrong with my daughter because this year - in first grade - she has started crying frequently throughout the day, and complains constantly of stomach aches. She, too, had no problems in all day kindergarten last year so I couldn't figure out what was going on! She has always been highly intelligent, advanced academically (if that exists at this age) and hyper-sensitive. This year though, I've really seen her change and as another poster put it - "lose a little bit of that child-like innocence" She's even wrote a "note" and brought it to us in the living room last night that said, "I am angry because I don't like

Yes, it is so very common at this age and you are right the stomache issues are probably a result of the worry. We can hug them, love them, and guide them, but can't sheilld them from all the things they worry about nomatter how we wish we can) all we can do is talk to them and assure them that life is so much greater than all the bad things in it-if that makes sense. I'm glad you found us too.

Oh my gosh - you won't believe it - I gave her a diary and instructed that it was a healthy way to deal with her emotions (in more child like terms) - now she runs and writes in it when she gets upset and the stomach aches are (for the moment) gone! Kids are fun - they worry us sooo much and then when we find an answer - we feel sooo relieved!
