Out of Sight Out of Mind? throwing away

I am wondering about this phenomenon of out of sight out of mind. My SS is age 7 and SD age 6. If we get junk at McD's or something they will love it and play with it when they get home. When they aren't looking I toss it in the junk drawer. Odds are they will never ask for it again. This happens all the time. If they don't see it for a day or two, I can toss stuff and they don't notice.
I taught for many years and never have seen this. Is this common with your kids as well?

Totally, especially with toys like that.

hello!! yep-this is fairly common in our house too. even the "big" stuff-last christmas, my odd got an easy bake oven from my sil. she played with it twice. it sat under her bed collecting dust for 6 months before i tossed it. she never even noticed it was gone. last july, they went to visit my other sil for 2 weeks. while they were gone, i tore up their room. i threw away 3 bags of stuff and had a garage sale with some of the halfway decent stuff. they came home and noticed their room was clean...but never missed any of the items. but thats good for me cuz i can donate/toss things and dont have to worry about them noticing. take care!!

That's something I really need to get around to doing.
