I've never had that problem with one of my boys.

How does he do with the pediatric dentist in general? Will this be his first "procedure"? (No fillings or any dental work other than the "routine" stuff?)

Olivia has had two teeth removed in the past. She does fine with it but they were exposed teeth that had to come out. My understanding is that if the tooth does not come in and out naturally it taked much longer for the permanent tooth to fill in. My guess is that is why they want you to get it done ASAP. Depending on which tooth it is, they may put in a spacer to save the space for the permanent tooth.

They key in finding a good person to do the work is to ask questions. Depending on your child, you might want to be able to accompany them to the procedure room until he is under. Some will not let you do this so be clear on what you expect and find someone who can work with you.

Good luck!

He was excellent with the dentist and this was his experience there.

I can see why you are so nervous about it.

Hi Melissa, My dd, aged 10, recently had to have a few baby teeth removed...not because they didn't emerge, but because only a portion of the tooth came out when she originally lost them...roots were still embedded in the gums and prevented secondary teeth from emerging.
